you need select where you want the file, name and extension, for example:

    c:\users\youruser\desktop\backupmsd.img

note: the backup is full size of your card, if your card is 8gb you can't restore into 4gb sdcard
only on linux we can make image with exact size that it is in use

Can someone post the Linux command to back up the sd card? And can this backup be restored in Windows using win32 imager. Also can it be restored to a smaller card if free space isn't an issue

    Test this:

insert the original sd card, check the name of the device (usually mmcblkX or sdcX)
    sudo fdisk -l
In my case the sd card is /dev/mmsbkl0. Now you have to unmount the device
    sudo umount /dev/mmcblk0
    Create image of the device
    sudo dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 of=~/sd-card-copy.img
It will take some time ....

I tried it. Seems to give an identical image to win32 imager. I thought the advantage of using DD on Linux was that it didn't copy the free space? My issue is my sd cards are all 16gb but slightly different by a few mb so one image doesn't usually copy to a slightly smaller one. I know I could get round this by checking free space and making the image based on the smallest card but it seems clunky esp when jumping between different e2, openelec setups
