[TUTORIAL] Using w_scan on DVB-T/T2/C
This step by step tutorial is going to help you use the "w_scan" terminal application in order to obtain a list of tunable DVB-T, DVB-T2 or DVB-C channels from your DVB-T/T2/C tuner module. This list can, hopefully, later be used with VDR (The (Linux) Video Disk Recorder) in Kodi on OpenELEC running on the WeTek Play.
First things first, plug in your antenna cable or the cable from your cable provider into the "IN" connector of your DVB-T/T2/C module on your WeTek Play, insert the SD card with OpenELEC, if it's not installed to NAND, and turn on your device.
Wait until OpenELEC boots.
Make sure you have an active internet connection on your device for the next step. If not, you will have to install w_scan from a zip file.
Now you will install the w_scan terminal application.
This can be done by first installing and enabling the "Unofficial OpenELEC (WeTek_Play/arm) Add-ons" at "System/Settings->Add-ons->Get Add-ons->OpenELEC Mediacenter OS Add-ons->Add-on repository".


Then go into "System/Settings->Add-ons->Get Add-ons->All Add-ons->Program Add-ons" and scrolling down the menu (almost until the end) until we get to "w_scan".

Now install and enable w_scan.

If you try to run the application from the GUI you will receive an error stating: "This is a console-only addon".

This means we can't run the application directly from here. And since OpenELEC has no virtual or graphical terminals available we are going to have to use a remote terminal on another computer through SSH.
Now that we have access to a CLI on our WeTek Play we can proceed to use w_scan. But first we must turn off any PVR that might be ocupying the DVB modules resources or else we will get an error message like the one bellow.
Now you can try w_scan.
While this command might give acceptable output to someone who needs a list of DVB-T/T2 channels in Germany, what if your on cable or you don't live in Germany (like me)?
The module is a DVB-T/T2/C tuner module, so how do you get a valid list of DVB-C channels?
In this case the programs default behavior is insufficient for your needs.
w_scan being a terminal application uses a CLI feature to modify it's own behavior and expand functionality. This feature is called options, flags or switches. Using them we can specify the parameters under which the program will operate.

As you can see in the program output we have specified DVB-C tuning (line 5) in Bosnia & Herzegovina (line 4) and xine compatible output format (line 6) by using flags.

You must be careful with the command syntax. It is case sensitive! And especially careful around the "-f" and "-c" flags! While the other flags modify program behavior by their very presence (for example "-X" sets xine compatible format output, no "-X" reverts to default behavior (vdr-2.0 compatible output)), the "-f" and "-c" flags need a parameter specified right after them to modify the programs behavior. They can be separated by a ' ' (space) but don't have to if your not going to use "combined flag". Just make sure that they are either both separated or both not separated by spaces! Otherwise you can expect an error message or unpredictable behavior.
In this case the "-f" flag allows you to chose between "t - terrestrial (default)" and "c - cable".
And the "-c" flag allows us to specify a country by it two letter code.
If you want a full list of flags and their parameters use the "-H" flag instead of "-h".
When you are ready to write the output to a file you can use the shells inbuilt I/O redirection or tee with w_scan's output switches:

As you can see in the program output we have specified DVB-C tuning (line 5) in Bosnia & Herzegovina (line 4) and xine compatible output format (line 6) by using flags.

When you are ready to write the output to a file you can use the shells inbuilt I/O redirection or tee with w_scan's output switches:

Move it latter to:
/storage/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/service.multimedia.vdr-addon/config/or overwrite:
/storage/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/service.multimedia.vdr-addon/config/channel.confand reboot to get VDR to recognize the channel list.
If you are asked to create a log use:
w_scan -v -v 2>&1 | tee w_scan.logThe "-v"s regulate output verbosity while "2>&1" sends information from stderr to stdout and combines it with the already existing stream in stdout, so it doesn't just end up on the terminal and not in the log file. Later, "more", "less" or "cat" can be used to view the contents of the files that have been created. Manual editing can be accomplished with "vi". Then you can see just how much of w_scan's output goes to stderr.

can you please explain how can i search for one specific frequency for dvbs-dvbs2.

I'm new with OpenElec literally got it 2 days ago mainly due to the possibility to stream terrestrial channels with tvheadend and I'm already stacked with the configuration.
First of all the actual web interface is slightly different from the one published here: http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php/Configuring_Tvheadend.
from the web interface, configuration tab > DVB inputs > tv adapters I can see the DVB-T adaper and enable.
configuration> DVB inputs> Networks, I create a "dvbt" network with default settings
configuration > DVB Inputs> Muxes enable only changing DVB-T settings
After that when I saw that no service were found I used w_scan -ft -c IT and this is the output:
w_scan -ft -c IT

Using the new release of tvheadend, on the network tab when creating a network it is necessary to select the approprate "Pre-defined Muxes:". Once I did this immediately the system works
