It is not enough info to tell you the cause. More detailed error info should be earlier in the build log. And what command line you use to build?

Ubuntu 14.04 (64-bit) on VM VirtualBox

    git clone https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv.git
    cd OpenELEC.tv/
    sudo apt-get install u-boot-tools
    PROJECT=WeTek_Play ARCH=arm make image

I see the following error in your log: gcc-nm.o: file not recognized: File truncated
I don't know what could cause this error but please check this link:http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5713894/file-not-recognized-file-truncated-gcc-error
Also check you have enough disk space.

After upgrading to 6.0.1 my WeTek OE (i.e. NAND install) is it possible to build and test any recent OpenELEC version using an SD card?

What's the process? Compile following the instructions in this post and put the image in an SD card? Or must I do anything else?

    Thanks!

Yes it is possible with 6.0.1. Just download the SD card image (from: http://openelec.tv/get-openelec), install this image on your SD card (see: http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php/HOW-TO:Installing_OpenELEC/Writing_The_Disk_Image) and it should work.

I´m not sure you can try

    List all branches/versions
    git branch -a

    Change to version 7
    git checkout openelec-7.0

then follow the normal build procedure, I use the following command on my octacore to reduce the build time.
    time PROJECT=WeTek_Play ARCH=arm make -j9 -l8 release

    regards
